Chroma - s/t - Tape (2015)

Labels: Cintes Podrides
Review by: Alex Deller

Don’t know anything about this band at all and can’t remember what led me to take a punt on their tape, but since it popped through the letterbox I’ve listened to it a whole heap. The band play crisp, sharp-edged post-cum-anarcho punk, and while they dose it with some chilly Joy Division vibes they thankfully don’t veer off into boring dour goth territory. Instead they’ve landed on a sound that’s desperate yet also somehow hopeful, the measured angularity of things frequently giving way to whoops, hollers and a sense that the various elements of their music are working at odds with one another. While it’s clearly early days for the band they’re still pretty much killing it with tracks like ‘Por Llegar’, and if this is the kind of stuff they can come up with for a demo tape then I’m really excited to see how things develop…
