Picked up Ectovoid’s first 12″ on a whim and was pretty disappointed: for all the highfalutin’ babble it was a fairly damp, mushy, nondescript release that was forgotten as soon as it was filed away. This one is far more satisfactory, delivering huge mucky gulps of stick-to-yer-ribs, Finnish-sounding death metal that comes with a hearty side salad of heebie-jeebies. The incessant pummel is swathed in a mixture of murk and grime that lends things an unpleasant sense of stickiness, while the vocals are provided by a sad, angry wraith and pretty much everything else sounds like a bubbling cauldron of boiling effluent … all rather par for the course, then, but very well done with it.
