Wake in Fright is an almost unclassifiable film from the new wave of 1970s Australian cinema. Directed by Ted Kotcheff (First Blood and Weekend at Bernies!) it tells the story of the relentless descent into personal annihilation of a schoolteacher visiting a small Australian town during his summer holiday. I bought the Masters of Cinema release of this film for my friend nearly two years ago and she still hasn’t watched it all yet because she can’t get passed the opening thirty minutes.
Uniform are a duo from NYC who have here produced an album which could realistically act as a soundtrack to the main character’s uncontrolled tumbling into madness, comprising as it does, of angry, brutal music being yelled over by a man who has quite evidently reached the point of psychological meltdown.
