Labels: Drunken Sailor – Iron Lung

Like this. A lot. If you only give it a cursory listen, things make a rough sort of sense. The two songs are frantic and jagged, and definitely reside within hardcore’s admittedly malleable parameters. Sit down and focus, though, and there’s actually quite a lot going on. Things lurch and gloop on the one hand, and are sharp and brittle on another. They sound wayward. But then at least one person involved seems to have a white-knuckled grip on the reins. There are elements of Void warring with chorus-plastered darkness; and a sense galumphing, hobbledehoy lumpiness trying to wrest itself free from the kind of woozy spaciousness you might find on a Dreamdecay record. All this, and neither song manages to punch its way into the three-minute mark. Huh?
