Labels: Waiting Room
Review by: Alex Deller
Second great collection of female-fronted post-punk from Waiting Room Records, and I think I actually prefer this outing to the first. Beyond adding a year to the date range the style and format is pretty much the same, albeit showing greater variety and dynamic within the set parameters. You get peppy, punked-up bursts, bouts of warped pop and odd abstract lurches from bands (barring X Mal Deutschland) who you’ve likely never heard of unless you’ve done some serious crate-digging/blog-scouring. Every track’s a highlight, but particular doozies include those by 水玔°Ã¦Â¶Ëé˲唺£ (a.k.a. Mizutama Shobodan), Q4U, Rosa Yemen and Corrosive Crowd. As with the first instalment my only gripe is the lack of some kind of Nuggets/BFTG-style liner notes to guide my next steps but, hey, I’m a grown-up and I can use the internet. Now, find a copy for yourselves … I’m off to spin this again and update my Discogs want list…
