Misanthropic Charity - s/t - 7

Labels: No Plan
Review by: Alex Deller

Cool archival dig that brings three demo tracks from the short-lived Misanthropic Charity into (slightly) wider circulation. This lot notably featured Bibi Blomstrøm from the wonderful Electric Deads, and her wild melodic vocals are given full rein here. Musically things are very ‘late 80s Europe’, meaning punchily tuneful, loaded with stocky riffs and clearly marked out as ‘melodic hardcore’ rather than ‘pop punk’ … think acts like Dan, Some Kind Of Hate and Life… But How To Live It? and you’re in a roughly equivalent ballpark. Along with lyrics and flyer art there’s a short essay by the guy who runs the label … nothing too enlightening in terms of the band’s history or what was going on in 1980s Denmark, but still a nice touch that shines a light on how these tracks wound up on vinyl some 30 years after the fact.
