Synths, strings, bells and piano wend their way through Christina Vantzou’s latest opus, drawing together to form an illusory landscape alive with wavering gossamer tendrils and slowly-forming crystals. Vantzou and her collaborators trace a fine line between tranquillity and disquiet as opalescent droplets of sound, limbic discords and subtle arterial throbs hover at the very edges of perception. Like a vast, deep-sea milting event there’s something infinitesimally patient and yet cosmically vital about the whole affair, and while it takes its sweet time to fully unfurl there’s certainly a lot to be said for the shimmering result when it’s finally presented before you.
