This is Bangladeafy’s third release, and it’s cool to see how crazy things are getting. ‘Ribboncutter’, see, is an absolute mind-fryer, comprising gloopy bass insanity, scattergun drumming and synths that ooze between tuneful, ambient and eye-stabbingly jarring. Things slip and wriggle, touching base with the likes of Trencher, Genghis Tron and The Locust but out-progging them all and arriving at a sound that’s more akin to malfunctioning alien technology than normal, regular “music.” While virtuoso playing can often come off as bland and sterile, there’s nothing clinical about this whatsoever: it’s the sound of two guys who are great at what they do pushing their abilities and having a weird, wild and wonderful time while doing so.
