Zochor - Should Virtual Pets Die? - Download (2019)

Zochor have risen from the ashes of What Price, Wonderland?, Algae Bloom, Plaids and Soul Structure and are doing something similar to parts of all those bands – Joe Caithness is on vocals for a start. The bendy guitar at the start of opener “Another Bedroom Intervention” has shades of Soul Structure to it but it’s Plaids i’m reminded the most of here as it’s got the energy of Rev Summer and comes hurtling out the blocks before a slower section and sudden change of tack with a more melodic part towards the end. Drive and energy are in abundance throughout and there’s a few choice samples interspersed here and there. “Big Rob Returns” is melodic and more measured than the opener (I say that but it’s pretty driven towards the end again). The last two tracks burn through in the blink of an eye and are not much longer than your average La Boite Diabolique track. It’s a very promising start and I think if you liked any of those ex-bands, and Plaids in particular, then you can get pretty excited about the emergence of Zochor.
