Planchettes - The Truth - Download (2019)

Labels: Rise Above
Review by: Alex Deller

A very agreeable slice of rock n’ roll from these Planchettes, which, for the most part, could pass for a Back From The Grave band all festooned with Halloween bunting. As they jump, jive and harmonize the band touch base with The Cramps, The Gun Club and The Black Lips, offering a country twang here, a booming frat party stomp there and, once in a while, a simmering shot of graveyard soul. Tracks like ‘Wet Graves’ sink themselves into the grey mush of your brain the first time you hear them while the album’s title track achieves its aims with a subtler, more creeping brand of menace. It all makes for an effective jolt of retro, hip-swinging action, but also one that’s surprisingly multifaceted.
