Waingro - III - Download (2019)

Labels: No List – Sludgelord
Review by: Alex Deller

Thirty seconds into this and I was groaning in weary despair, but a minute later I was sold and enjoying the heck out of it. Not quite sure Waingro have pulled that off but kudos for sure, because amid some very familiar influences they’ve crafted a surging beast of a rock record that’s impossible not to enjoy. The two key components are clumpy sludge metal (think Cavity circa ‘On The Lam’) and the pushy, broad-shouldered punk of Turbonegro or Burning Love. This gives ‘III’ its heavy, high-energy vibe, but it’s the songwriting and snaky melodic sidelines … think a more aggro, attack-focused Josh Homme … that lift the album beyond fleeting, adrenaline-rush satisfaction and make it something you’ll want to keep coming back to.
