Simple is the key. Acoustic guitar and a voice, sometimes two. A foot tapping to keep time. Whispers of strings and other things, but only when strictly necessary. Simple words that ring of truth, with heart worn haphazardly stitched on sleeve. Songs as pure as pure can be, songs that are hardly there at all. Like ghosts. Like faded smiles. Sad. But sad in the most comforting of ways. In the way you can still fondly reminisce about having been in love with someone, even though you’ve lost them.
