Ok, so this is the first in a series of Metallica tribute 7″s (most likely aping Hydrahead’s decent ‘In These Black Days’ ones), and, on the strength of this, it’d be safe to say that the idea isn’t a good one.
Boy Sets Fire stumble through ‘Fade To Black’, the only major differences between their and the original being that it’s sped up to an unnatural level and the guitar solo sucks, all of which is lousy in itself but, when combined with close-your-eyes-to-look-like-you-mean-it kareoke singing you’re on for a dead cert misfire.
Shai Hulud follow suit by butchering the mighty Damage Inc., reducing it to shite by attempting to outpace the masters and adding in sub-Dwid vocals and a rank, tinpot production. The fools even manage to make the amazing mid-way riff sound like tosh which must’ve taken quite some doing.
Conclusion: two decent bands who should’ve stuck to what they’re good at, which clearly isn’t this.
