Q and Not U - Hot And Informed - 7

Labels: Dischord
Review by: Martin Brown

Wow. They’re from DC, they wear amazing threaded get-up, they’ve got a single on Dischord and DeSoto, had Ian MacKaye produce them, whilst J Robbins does artwork… they have friends in high places! Or could it just be due to the fact that they are bloody excellent? Solid, often skittish, math rock / emo bringing to mind all those classic DC bands and an electronic edge with a little Weezer too. ‘And the Washington Monument Blinks Goodnight’ is one hell of an opener – one to shake that ass to: I think there’s a disco groove in there?!?! ‘Busy Lights Busy Carpet’ is a great followup: more laboured, but equally impressive. Flip it over and ‘Kiss Distinctly American’ is a nice ending with some classy, slow, jangly stuff. Bloody nice package – one of the best 7″s this year.
