Hailing from Belfast, ex-of the stupendously heavy The Naut, and following on in the fine tradition of fellow Irish instru-metallers The Kabinboy come Slomatics, a power-trio implementing a simple double-guitar setup that requires no bass thanks to its warm, all-enveloping tone.
In fact, add in adjectives such as bloated, suffocating, heavy and crushing to my tortured metaphor, for these are men that have spent considerable amounts of time twiddling their nobs, getting the sound just how they (and I) like it, which makes up for the sometimes ponderous lengths they go to in order to make something as elephantine as possible (see “The Technique”). In “Celeste” however they have an anthem all ready for newfound fans to wave their lighters to. Chiming major chords, just the right tempo, a bit of echoed yelling “” total, joyous, simplistic perfection.
Although this is a “mere” CDR release, they have had the good grace to put some effort into the presentation, with some beautifully effective artwork courtesy of Scrawl Design (aka Glyn from The Dagda) that fits perfectly with the minimalist nature of the music.
