The Bug vs The Rootsman feat. Daddy Freddy / Dj/Rupture - 12inch - 12

Labels: Tigerbeat
Review by: Chris Bress

The Bug lays down some more fucking wicked tracks, brutal raga / garage styled electro that’s fucking bound to get the stiffest going into dancehall mode. These tracks aren’t quite as offensively brutal as some of the full lengths but fucking hell, theyre well fucking good! The first track plods along with a repetitive booming bass line with some fell going on about imitators and is led into some nasty cut ups by the Bug himself. Noisy! The second kicks off like a raga streets of rage (what a game!) and then nicks some almost drum and bass basslines that are so heavy its untrue! The last track starts off with an intricate and unusual wall of noise and goes into some dark, dark beefy noise that makes Pitman look like a toff!

The last Dj/Rupture mix cd was incredible, I mean really incredible. It was such a mish mash of styles, he made 2 many djs (as good as they are) look pretty fucking stooopid! These cuts start off in a fucked Squarepusher style breaks but with the occasional dub burst. This one ends up getting well confusing, it goes into major distort mode like Kid606 for ages and ends on a sweet pulsing Eno like ending (I wish it wasn’t so brief though). Dj/Rupture is pretty fucking great I have to say. He must have covered pretty much every style apart from metal which is danceable.

None of the tracks on this 12″ are quite as good as the best tracks on each artists full length but if you have both of their new ones then im sure you already want more!
