Continuing the fine tradition of the UK’s geographical outskirts for stoner rocking outsider music (see the following for reference: Snowblood, IX and Marzuraan up north, Moss and Sunshine Republic down south, Serpents, Slomatics and De Novissimus in Ireland, and especially Taint and Acrimony from this band’s native South Wales), The Death Of Her Money (a name that you might not consider to be quite so terrible once you discover that they used to go under the godawful moniker Copious Kiffage) really know how to get into a groove. Not in a Clutch-style good-time bar-room riff-rocking kind of way, but more in a darker, Krautrock-influenced manner, with a similar approach to, say, Hey Colossus, in that they utilise repetition to its logical breaking point, though TDOHM are less swaggering and much more focussed and downbeat. The songs progress with a nice predictability, coupling an unshowy less-is-more approach with deceptive simplicity to make a suffocating and deadly effective little demo. The recording isn’t too hot on these two songs, especially once you know just how poundingly satisfying they can be live, though this is still good value for money “” one track is 5 minutes long, the other 10. Expect some sort of proper release soon! Ish!
