The Passenger Train Proposal - Sailboats - 7

Labels: Ed Walters Records
Review by: Andy Malcolm

Strange band name. And nicely presented packaging, a very tasteful and understated grey with a bit o’ colour on the back. And some ‘action’ photos of the band kickin’ ass.

So wassup? Side one of this two tracker sees the Proposal go a bit Christie Front Drive, this being some subtle and dreamy, yet powerful, indie emo rock music. Astoundingly original? No. Better than all of the emo rock bands on Emo Diaries 3? Yup. Vocals are very CFD, except maybe a little clearer. And PTP actually bother to give you lyrics. Ta.

Flip it for “The Train of 1945” and you’re in for another treat. This one starts out as slow and quiet as you like (you hear all the vinyl crackles, that’s how quiet it is), then building and building. *Whump* the big bass kicks in. Then they change direction again. It gets much pacier and poppier than the a-side, and has all these great little hooks that suck you in and get your foot tapping. A great blend of pop ‘n’ rock, emo stylee.

Cool band, I’d buy an album.
