Prepare to read the next line in every review of The Whip from now on: The Whip feature two-thirds of the late, great Karp, alongside 100% of Thrones (i.e. Joe Preston), who is himself ex-Melvins. Karp did a few albums and a bunch of 7″‘s on labels like K and Troubleman that were all disgustingly heavy in a way-distorted fast-ish Melvins kind of way big on pounding repetition and hummable metallic melodies and were/are cool enough for the singer from Built To Spill to wear their T-shirt constantly (or rather in the two photos I have seen of him). If that pedigree isn’t proof enough that this thing is fucking great the fucker’s produced by the singer bloke from Unwound and released on the same label that did that Oxes 10″ and some Early Humans stuff. It is also mixed by ‘The Heat Of A Dog’ – absolutely no idea what that means – some very cruel parents maybe?
