So I heard about this band a while ago, and heard that they have members from Kill Sadie, Botch, and Nineironspitfire. I’m not familiar with Nineironspitfire but I really enjoy Botch and Kill Sadie, so I looked for some of their stuff. I could only find an mp3 on their site, and since I’m not really a fan of mp3s, I didn’t get it. But recently a show came through here: Dance Disaster Movement, Blood Brothers, and These Arms are Snakes. I love Blood Brothers so I was going to go anyway but I figured it was a plus to be able to finally hear TAAS.
When TAAS got through their first song I was already hooked. their stage presence is incredible and their music just has this catchy, rockish feel and their singer is a total maniac on stage, doing stuff such as nearly strangling hismelf with the mic cord, attempting to eat the mic, flailing around, etc. the only problem with the show was that they had these incredibly bright yellow fog lamps that would blare in my face every once in a while and I had to close my eyes so I would miss a few seconds of them playing here and there. But overall it was a great show so I grabbed the CD and a few buttons after the show was over.
With members of botch and kill sadie, I was kind of expecting something rather chaotic and noisy, but instead they play a very rock and roll-ish post hardcore-type deal. Not exactly what was expected, but still great nonetheless. I guess it compares to stuff like Drive Like Jehu, Fugazi, or maybe something like Song of Zarathustra near the end of their career. or something.
So overall this is a pretty nice EP and a nice first release by the band. I’d like to hear more by them in the future definately. the last song, “drinking from the necks of the ones you love,” is most definately the best song on the album. If you’re into post-hardcore type stuff you’ll probably dig this. I do.
