This is the debut release by this technical metal hardcore band. I don’t know how many reviews are written nowadays that start exactly like that, but it must run into the hundreds. Already an oversubscribed subgenre, the dreaded term “tech”” can so often be prefixed by the term “”pointlessly”” with a lot of bands but RDFP have got a good thing going on. The snaky guitar lines and interesting structures of Converge abound along with the doom-laden heaviness of Isis plus the epic approach and ambitious song lengths of Envy. Crucially though RDFP never really venture out from the shadow of those bands but it’s heartening to see a UK band take the big boys on at their own game and not do too badly. Plenty of promise here.”
