Traindodge have turned into a strange band, but then if you’d been toiling away in the American Midwest for the best part of a decade in near obscurity, you might go a little potty too. Formerly dealing in Jawbox-styled melodic post-hardcore with the added interesting wrinkle of a thunderously heavy approach, Traindodge have taken their collective feet off the pedal in both respects and gone for baiting the mainstream while keeping half an eye firmly on the experimental (a lot like label mates Riddle Of Steel actually). It’s unlikely you’ll have heard such a mix of modern and classic rock stylings (I swear, the beginning of the second song reminds me of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and still manages to not come off as complete shit) and abstract melodicism like this for a long time. Whether you wanted to in the first place is debatable, and some of the overly-synthy quieter songs simply don’t draw in the listener enough, but on the whole, “Wolves”” is fascinating entertaining and original.”
