Git Some is folk from Band Mistaken For Good, and I have to say I was not expecting this to be worth my time at all. But the first few lumbering seconds of “Glowing Shadows” seemed to indicate otherwise. It’s like a really drunken, fat fucking Drive Like Jehu is staggering around, bumping into things and knocking shit over. Because they are drunk, they’ve dispensed with all the smart-arse bastard bits and replaced them with oafish guitars that belch and crunch, taking inspiration more from heavy rock than advanced mathematics. Git Some perpuate this heft throughout the album, which clocks in at a surprisingly slim 28 minutes, given that 11 tracks are on offer. There is barely a moment to pause for breath, everything is frantic, off kilter and delivered with a grand quotient of power. Dirty, punchy and basic, yet retaining an essential melodic hew, it’s the kind of rock music that someone reared on emo can get behind. I am sure that purists of hairy chested, leaden footed, real man’s rock music such as Sir Alex of Deller may raise an eyebrow and suggest that this kind of thing is always ballsed up when the god damn punks get their hands on it, but I am a cloth eared dunce, my tastes are untainted by the mighty rock behemoths that Alex and Kunal champion on these very pages, and to me, Git Some is highly palatable intensity.
Count me as impressed. Really impressed, I think if you are someone who gets their groove on to the likes of Science of Yabra, then this will definitely please you. Git Some is a band that is actually good, instead of one that is mistaken as such, do you see? Belting.
