If you keep up at all with the fast moving and burgeoning scene of bands that like Cap’n Jazz, Algernon Cadwallader and American Football, then Snowing will probably be a band you were well into on Get Rad several months ago when they first made available some rough demos, but now they have more than 90 listeners on last.fm you’ve moved on to some other shittily recorded band playing pretty much exactly the same music, but a bit worse, instead. This is a pleasing 5 tracker, from a bunch of guys who did the not so disimilar Street Smart Cyclist. What you get is twiddly guitars, rough ‘n gruff vocals and pleasing melodies. The songs are fairly short and compact, and the mathiness doesn’t tend to wear out it’s welcome. Each track is free wheeling but the sore throat vocals tend to blur things together. “Important Things” has a nice, softer moment where everything drops out and jangles around, but for the most part this is loud, energetic and the foot is firmly planted on the accelerator. “Pump Fake” (Football Etc wanted this song title) gently trips out of the gate in familiar Am-Foot fashion, before it guns off into the distance. Drawbacks? The music is entirely predictable, Snowing are not attempting to do anything new or wild, they love a certain sound and they stick to their guns, hence their appeal. It’s not my favourite sound but I wouldn’t turn this off either if it came up on shuffle on the ole MP3 thing. Solid, confident and workman like, Snowing know what they are doing and if you like this kind of music you’ll be chuffed with Snowing.
