The swirly sleeve and lurid vinyl does a fair enough job of suggesting there might be some hippy shit afoot here and that’s sure not far of the mark since what we gots is a handful of songs that lope between hazy Electric Wizard stumbles and tye-dyed Bardo Pond wiffling. All that has the potential to be great of course, but Purple Rhinestone Eagle (*cough*) fall kinda short of the mark, the riffs and grooves not dense enough to attend the Wizard’s black mass while their woozy skygazing and little-girl-raiding-the-medicine-cabinet distorto vox are nowhere near BP’s gloriously confused perma-whitey, all of which happens to leave them closer to third-tier Mans Ruin output than heavy-lidded transcendence.
