Decayor - Recurring Times Of Grief - CD (2010)

Labels: self released
Review by: Alex Deller

Something foul creeping up through the Irish gravesoil here, a four-track death-doom offering to the Old Ones (i.e. Winter, Autopsy and Disembowelment) that churns through the muck with putrid riffs, bone-chilling gurgles and a nigh-on unstoppable drum battery. Rather than simply piledrive you into the floor with mind-altering horror, however, Decayor demonstrate a capacity for light and shade, employing eerie piano motifs and an occasional sense of ceremonial pomp similar to that of Morgion or Candlemass that adds texture to proceedings without ever threatening to banish the thick scent of autumnal decay to be found elsewhere.
