Have to say, s’been a good old while since I gave this one a spin. My copy’s stashed away in a box somewhere and hasn’t been seen for at least a couple of years, so it’s nice that Southern Lord have done the honourable thing and brought it back into circulation. Meatier and more assured than their first full-length, this ‘un might not have ‘What Love Remains’ in its midst but it nevertheless delivers the classic doom goods in spades, heaping heavy fucking riff upon heavy fucking riff and mixing Pete Stahl’s soulful Paul Rodgers groan with wailing harmonica honks while some slightly more adventurous shenanigans scritch and scratch in the background, adding another level of bleary-eyed intrigue to draw in those who haven’t succumbed to the big bastard riffs alone.
