Snappy, scrawny hardcore that comes off like a scruffier, hands-permanently-in-pockets younger brother to the Observers with a dash of the Young Offenders mixed in. Things are tense and taut, packing rabbitpunch riffs and pianowire melodies in amidst drily-delivered vocals that aren’t afraid to have a go at soaring once in a while and neat poetic lyrics that capture modern despair and disillusionment without ever descending into cringey hysterics or hyperbole. A pretty fine start, I’d say, and I know I’m not alone in wanting something more substantial now my whistle’s been wetted.
