Picked this up when Hot Snakes played the Garage, a hot, sweaty, belter of a gig only marred by the fact that they were precisely as good as I knew they would be. This here 7″ was on sale and, being that kind of mug, I forked over a fiver for three-and-a-half minutes’ worth of music. Go me. ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ was, I think, the last song the band recorded before they called it quits back in 2005. It follows much the same template as the tracks from their ‘Audit In Progress’ swansong: taut, chiming guitarwork and Froberg’s strained voice creaking out a big, singalong chorus that could honestly do with being a bit longer because (a) it’s pretty ruddy good and (b) I’m getting tired of yo-yoing from couch to stereo to keep lifting the arm of my goddamn record player. The b-side is similarly brief, this time a Government Issue cover. Heart kinda sank at the prospect, but to be honest they make a decent fist of it, put their own stamp on a classic hc cut (like I ever should have doubted they would…) and serve us another welcome – if brisk – reminder as to why all the bands who’ve since been dropping their name really aren’t a patch on the real deal.
