Kittyhawk - s/t - CD (2012)

Lovely little 5 track demo from this new band, featuring Mark wot does the trumpetmo in Joie de Vivre and Erik fom Dowsing. So it should come as no surprise to you that they have chosen the genre of emotional independent rock music as their focus. Kittyhawk are plainly in love with Rainer Maria, with Kate’s vocals coming across as a dead ringer for Caithlin at times. That certainly does not lose them points with a reviewer like me. The sensibly titled EP opener, “œThe First One” is dead poppy and catchy, and they have some nice cheesy keyboard in there a la Wolfie or something. Which is nice. It’s a good little tune but I think they top it with slightly more emo efforts such as “œOlder / Wiser” which is considerably more downbeat and has a beautiful twinkly beginning. That’s probably the pick of the tracks for me, but there isn’t anything even close to a clunker on here, and each song has little stand out moments that get me smiling.

This band is very much on the right track, they’ve nailed their sound straight away and assuming they all get to hang out enough for the next few months I have no doubt that they’ll produce a super sweet LP. Get on it, band!
