This is 4 songs from four Wakefield people from various bands up there. I’m not 100% sure who exactly but there are definitely some ex-Pylon guys involved. The first track is a gorgeous take on the Chopper song, “Joe’s Place”. It is a lovely, gentle version with a xylophone (or something similar) and Mary Bonner on vocals. It bears little resemblance to the original but the songwriting shines through and it sounds fantastic. Chris Charlton wrote the next three songs so you get some nicely melodic indie tracks with a nice, warm feel to them as well as an underlying hint of electronica. All these songs feature acoustic guitars and nice harmonies. “A Wall To Stop The Flames” is similarly gentle to the opener. The third track is a stripped-down version of “Yours Sincerely” by Pylon – renamed and revised as “Sincerely Yours”. This is a song I haven’t listened to for a while but is one that I could never get enough of originally. It’s good to hear an alternative version of it now. The last song is a bouncy, pleasant track called “No Score Draw” which is full of football references and I do love a good football reference. The folk in this band are ever reliable for some great tunes and this will likely appeal if you like bands like The Brown Hound James Band, Protectors and Nathaniel Green. A lovely, little set of songs that makes for great late-night listening. (By the way, having listened to this EP it ran straight into “You’re History” by Shakespeare’s Sister on my itunes – no idea how that got on there. Isn’t that a total embarrassment?).
