Late Bloomer’s demo ended with the song ‘Reality’ and this LP opens with a rerecorded version of it. The murkiness of their first effort is far less but this is still very much lo-fi indie rock territory, driven at a reasonable pace. It seems like they’ve hit the sound they want… having said that they then experiment with different vocals on the third song! It’s solid throughout but it does lack real standouts such as those that knocked my socks off on the demo. The rerecorded ‘Disappear’ is still good but I’ve heard it before and I actually prefer the demo version. At best, this is nice indie rock that to my ears doesn’t sound like much else. At worst, it’s kind of like a filled out version of the demo which lacks the lo-fi feel that I crave. Hmmm.
