Over the past couple of years, Southern Lord have opened up their signing remit, with veterans of the Scandi-crust influenced scene (Wolfbrigade, Martyrdod, From Ashes Rise) and the new wave of blackened hardcore (Heartless, Enabler, All Pigs Must Die) joining the fold. Smaller bands slip in amongst these higher-profile outfits which is heartening to see. Oiltanker keep things ripping along with a class bit of d-beat, no more, no less. The odd solo makes an appearance but otherwise there’s zilch messing about. There’s a bunch of melody in the mix and the nicely tinpot recording makes it all the more endearing. I don’t have the artwork to hand but hopefully they kept the sweet woodcut aesthetic from the seven inches I have stashed somewhere.
