Buho - s/t - 7

Labels: Crowquill
Review by: Rob Mair

Although only two tracks, totalling just over eight minutes, long, this short, sharp 7″ by Texan

noisemongers Buho is something of a challenging listen “” but rewards with repeated listens.

The first cut, “˜Endless Blur’ is, in fact, the opposite of the title. Combining elements of noise rock

and post rock, before slipping into a more comfortable style of shoegaze, it’s an occasionally

monotonous but overall monolithic five minutes of relentless noise. The first two minutes of the

song reminded me a lot of stuff put out on the Gringo label “” and if you’re down with that sort of

noise then you’ll like this post-rock/noise-rock mob.

However, just to prove they’re not willing to be confined to one genre, the second cut, “˜Night

Clinics’, is altogether more direct. A svelte three minutes, it owes more to fellow Texans At The Drive

In or Sparta than anyone else “” albeit in a similarly “˜shoegazey’ kind of way.

Overall, it’s hard to really get a handle on what Buho are about on these two songs. They like their

sonic dissonance and rumbling basslines, but I’d be intrigued to see how this works in the context of

an album, rather than this all-too-brief single.
