Fun Home - Knit Into Place - Tape (2014)

This is more of that downbeat indie punk from a new Philadelphia band and rather good it is too. Apparently they started out as a duo (two sisters by the way) and have added bass and drums now. It’s all fairly mid-paced, poppy and drifts along nicely. What sets this apart from some of the bands they will be compared to is that there is a subtle lethargy to the vocals at times and it’s best displayed on the appropriately named “Felt So Tired” where the rhythm section is bringing the energy but the vocals are weary. I have this down as the best song on here but it’s all good. The gentle acoustics of “Falling Asleep On The Floor” are also quite lovely before the fuzzier “I’m Not There” closes the EP. This fits in well with the likes of Tigers Jaw, Lemuria and Hop Along but still manages to be somewhat different to those bands. I’m looking forward to hearing more from this lot.
