Girl Scouts - Loud? - Secret Plot to Blow Up The Entire Universe - Kilgore Trout - split - 7

This is 4 bands I’ve not heard before from Pennsylvania and Virginia. First up is some energetic noodly stuff from Girl Scouts who are pretty upbeat musically. It grooves along nicely with lots of yelling. They’re somewhere in that realm where Algernon Cadwallader would reside. Loud? are the highlight for me. They go for more of a swaying indiemo track with downbeat lyrics and vocals. I would’ve been telling you they were Scottish had I not known otherwise. I might be hearing things and maybe I had too heavy a weekend but the accent appears to lean that way. Anyway, it’s a nice and mopey song that makes me want to hear more from them. Things get heavier on side B. Secret Plot To Destroy The Entire Universe have more of a modern style blending post hardcore with post rock. The split ends with some screamo from Kilgore Trout (I could’ve sworn there is an older band with the same name but this is a different one from Virginia. EDIT: Lastfm tells me there are at least 9 bands with this name!). I don’t listen to much screamo these days but this is pretty good, aggressive stuff with the vocals at their absolute limit. The opening is almost twinkly but it takes a pummelling once the track kicks in. This is an interesting split showcasing some different styles.
