Postblue - I Hope They're Praying For Me - LP (2014)

Labels: Poison City Records

This is a Byron Bay band that has developed its sound considerably in the past year or so since I saw them on first arriving in Brisbane this time last year. At that time, they were already on the grunge track but still finding their sound. This release sees them delivering a very solid set of songs that will appeal if you’re a fan of Basement and, fellow Aussies, Violent Soho (who are absolutely huge over here right now). You can also hear the 90s influence of Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins along the way too. Vocally we’re talking an almost deadpan style which suits the weary, angsty nature of the lyrics. Standout tracks? The opener, third track, and radio friendly, “Honey”, which has a huge chorus line of “I’m trapped inside my brain”, as well as the slower vitriol of “All The Babies”.
