Wendy Darlings - The Insufferable Fatigues of Idleness - CD (2015)

Labels: Odd Box
Review by: MH

This is fourteen tracks of indie pop from France. I was a long way into listening to this and getting started on the review before I realised where they came from. I can be slow on the uptake on occasion. Anyway, looks like they’ve been around for a good 7 years or so and have escaped my attention until now. Something that grabbed me initially with this was the slight raggedness as well as the bags of energy that they bring to proceedings. It reminds me of 90s indie pop bands a fair bit and the vocals are shouty when they want to be while the ramshackle side to things lends it a live feel. They kind of veer between these shoutier, rowdy tracks and more simple pop songs. “Tell Me Why” is a nice little pop song and stood out on early listens. They make me think of the likes of Mambo Taxi and Prolapse as they have a similar charm to both those bands. One song on here, “Zombie Bee” goes a little far into the bizarre for my own personal tastes but this a very welcome and very late introduction to the band for me.
