Enjoyed this mysterious mob’s ‘Hedonist Of The Death’ MLP a lot, but with this one they’re plumbing far fouler depths. The same turbulent elements are in operation, but the way the black and primal death metal sounds have been merged is now virtually seamless, and the slower, doomier Hellhammer / dISEMBOWELMENT moments really add to the grim sense of clamour. While the riffs are clearly boxed out and reasonably distinguishable the weird quotient has been ratcheted up, with odd ambient measures clawing at the door and an overriding rum vibe that can’t be explained away by sound alone. This general sense of wrongness helps carry the record through its occasional lapses and into genuinely strange territory, making for a blasphemous marriage of brutality and chest-tightening dread that’s compelling enough that you won’t even realise you’re lost unto it.
