Flemmings - Shake Well Before Use - Tape (2015)

Labels: Odd Box
Review by: MH

Last year’s debut demo by Flemmings was a really decent set of lo-fi indie pop songs. This new tape sees a much noisier side of the band which was hinted at on one track in particular on that demo. The opener here is a fantastic college-y punk rock song – shades of Husker Du here and I think the slightly bigger production is well suited to this track. “I’m Afraid I’m A Jerk” has a Descendents-esque title, and is rowdy and full of energy. Probably only slightly less so than the last track on here, “Stone Circle”. Well worth seeing what they get up to next – if I wasn’t living on the opposite side of the planet these days I’d be doing my best to see them live asap.
