The Ethical Debating Society - New Sense - LP (2015)

Labels: Odd Box

This is more like it. ‘The Society or TEDS, as they appear to also go by, play some rowdy and punked-up shouty and firey stuff with bags of attitude. You can hear the influence of riot grrrl bands and, in particular, Huggy Bear, in the rowdiness and dual vocals between Tegan and Kris. It’s a fine record. At one point, I’d written something about how if you wanted to listen to something a bit rabid and raucous you might want to start with “Sum of my Parts” but as the following few tracks rolled in it became a tough call as to which was the most rowdy. “Razor Party” is as raucous as anything I’ve heard lately. There’s lots of chanting and yelling on “New Sense”, and lots of big riffs – I bet they’d be great live as it’s full of energy. It’s been a slow year for me in terms of full lengths but this is certainly one of the better records I’ve heard so far this year.
