Scalped have all this stuff going on, but I don’t know. I just don’t know. At heart they sound like some tuff stuff NYHC worship with big, buff, clearly-delineated riffs, but this is dosed with a pinch of Integrity, a dash of mid-90s Roadrunnercore and, on ‘Dig In Deeper’ a soupçon of vintage death metal. Problem is, whatever they’re doing they don’t really convince. At no point do I feel threatened or cowed, nor does it make me want to punch holes in the wall until my knuckles are ruined jelly and my oversized basketball vest is soaked through with sweat and frustrated man tears. I’m just kind of sitting here, contemplating the hole in my sock and willing it all to be over so I can listen to something that might make me feel again.
