T-Shirt Weather - Pig Beach - LP (2015)

Labels: Odd Box
Review by: MH

I’m vaguely familiar with T-Shirt Weather having reviewed their split with Losing Sleep and a tape release in the last year or so. They play a pretty interesting and ramshackle brand of pop punk that is similar in vein to the likes of Martha. This new record sees them not straying too far from that blueprint either. The lyrics, although quirky and offbeat, are down to earth with talk of borrowing a light and sitting on the bonnet of your Dad’s black Polo all sung with the north east accent in the vocals (they come from Durham). There’s a brass section of some sort that features throughout most of the record, there are handclaps, and I’m reminded of the “Grease” soundtrack on the opening to “The Undersigned” with the building harmonies. I’ve probably just made this sound terrible by referencing “Grease” (unless you love “Grease”) and it’s probably a 60s pop influence rather than that particular soundtrack. These days if I’m going to listen to pop punk then I’m keen for something a bit different and T-Shirt Weather don’t really sound too much like anyone else at the moment.
