Cutters - Both//Neither - 7

Some interesting emo / punk here from Cutters. Opener “œList of People Buried at Arlington Cemetery” is the pick for me and is furiously energetic, an interesting blend of something like Perfect Future and Clairmel, featuring the earnest pondering of the former, and the pounding melodic choruses of the latter. And a rather lengthy post rock break to finish off. I’d definitely encourage them to stick to the noisier bits. “œWicked & Divine” leans in a folk punk direction and doesn’t click with me musically. “œFade to Black” is slow and lopes along nicely.

The email that came with it notes that the lyrics deal with the singer’s struggle with gender identity. That got me thinking about how so often a band must carry so much weight for those involved, and it doesn’t really matter whether I think this is any good or not. There’s a whole rabbit warren you could get into there regarding the impotence and pointlessness of reviews, hang on a sec whilst I go and delete the database. Anyway, check it out, it might end up being important to you.
