Wussy - Forever Sounds - CD (2016)

Labels: Damnably – Shake It Records
Review by: MH

I’d not heard this band before and that’s despite this being their sixth album. I’ve even reviewed a bunch of other stuff in the past on the label, Damnably, but Wussy are new to me and I like what I’m hearing. It’s sprawling and fuzzed-up indie/alt. rock of sorts and has a 90s feel to it. Also a hint of Americana too. There are dual male/female vocals that intertwine and the lyrics are interesting – topics that crop up include The Big Lebowski, ghosts and aliens. “Donny’s Death Scene” might be the stand-out on here (Lisa Walker’s vocals on this one are superb) but it’s a good, solid album all round. It took me a while to really appreciate this one so it’s something of a slow burner for me but repeated listens brought a little more out in the songs and lyrics each time. I’m going to have my work cut out working my way through their back catalogue having found them six albums in but I’ll give it a go.
