Two tracks of murky, coiling death metal imbued with blackened atmospherics and lumbering sludgisms. Points of reference include elder gods like Incantation and diSEMBOWELMENT, meaning Hissing also fit in well enough with the modern, roiling wares pedalled by labels like Invictus and Iron Bonehead (see: Diocletian, Hic Iacet, Malthusian et al). To my mind a two-song 7″ isn’t really the best way to test the powers of a band like this since you really need an album’s worth of time to explore their capacity for atmosphere and dread invocation, but as a flag in the sand it certainly shows early promise and suggests said album should be well worthy of investigation when it eventually surfaces.
