Big, hairy, meaty ol’ thing courtesy of No List Records, who’ve pitted two rather splendid bands against each other. The Great Sabatini kick it all off with some sample-flecked madness that, like their last album, runs the weirdo rock gamut. Rough-hewn riffs crash through the hedgerow, yowls occur and you’re variously reminded of Torche, Big Business and Helmet, but at the same time you get something like ‘Dog Years (Quiet)’ which is largely comprised of low-key mumbles, ambient burble and banjo. Godstopper, on the other hand, offer two decisive, mid-paced cuts that merge the spacious post-hardcore of Handsome or Jawbox with chuggy Big Businessisms (yes, them again) and some wrenchingly atonal oddness that seems all their own. Nice stuff, people!
