Molar appear to be something of an international noise conspiracy (sorry), gathering in London via Brazil, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Venezuela. And here they deliver two tracks to get you introduced. “Predictable” is a post punk groover with emphatic vocals. Going to drop that review clanger of saying “This really reminds me of someone” without actually telling you who. It’s some early 2000s emo band though. Everything reminds me of emo. Get over it. “Sylvia” contrasts to this by flying along at a million mph, it’s frantic and quite wonderful. A quick fire burst at 76 seconds but they have wisely used every single one of them.
Pale Kids come from the slightly less exciting climes of Durham. It’s kind of goofy melodic punk, with whiney vocals that suggest they can often be found in Games Workshop on a Saturday afternoon rolling sixes. The recording is odd on “One Thing At A Time”, the singer sounds like he is trapped in the airing cupboard (probably a mildly heavy object fell down outside and is obstructing his exit, and I speak from similar experience here) whilst the band plays outside. “Consent” was recorded after he made it out. It reminds me of the Beautiful South banger “You Keep it all In” but with a lot of lovely punky fuzz. Cool song, Pale Kids.
