Frana - Opiliones - Split - 7

Bustling and bruising post-hardcore is the order of the day from Italy’s Frana. Two songs packed full of taut riffs and urgent vocals. Certainly one to check out if you enjoy nodding your head to the sound of serious men who no doubt sweat a lot and stare at one particular spot (not the crowd) whilst playing live. Throwaway (throwback) references to the likes of Drive Like Jehu and Shotmaker are merely to give you a flavour of what to expect from Frana’s brand of noise rock, not to indicate an exact replication of said bands. This is good stuff and although I have far more records with this kind of sound than any one person really needs, there is nothing wrong with revisiting it with fresh perspective.

Opiliones are out of Germany and also present us with two songs from which we are to get to know them. Opiliones are ploughing similar chunkiness but take things in a slightly different direction. Vocals are more strained and yelped, and they rely on a little more repetition in their structure, preferring to hit a hefty groove and roll with it. Solid.
