Tentacles seem to fly under the radar; I’ve barely listened to them in the seven years since I bought their tape (which itself was a discography of releases back as far as 2008); now I stumble across this release (from a year and a half ago) and I’m reminded just how freaking good they are. A combination of many great aspects of harsh punk, this is a lesson in how to make brilliant hardcore. Track one has fascinating levels; there is so much distortion up top and then a guitar in the background playing all kinds of cool riffs. The vocals are virtually the same throughout but it works with what is essentially sledgehammer music – the soundtrack to being pissed off. Tracks two and three are under two minutes each; it then builds back up to two then three minutes, before an eight minute ender (with a great finale). A recommended listen.
